Project Oasis is a self-powering, carbon-negative geoengineering system designed to transform 20-acre desert parcels into high-value agroforestry. By combining solar thermal energy with organic waste, the system produces distilled water, electricity, and gourmet minerals while building 30cm of topsoil from barren sand over a 10-year horizon.
To maximize efficiency and minimize maintenance, the system utilizes a high-pressure solar thermal loop.
- Parabolic Trench (V5 Optimized): A 1,700 m² reflective trench. To reduce size by 48%, "Pre-heat Coils" are attached to the rear of the mirrors to capture waste heat and raise intake seawater to ~85°C.
- Flash Chamber: Super-heated seawater (150°C) is kept under 10-bar pressure to prevent scaling in the pipes. It is then sprayed through a nozzle into a 1-bar tank, "flashing" instantly into steam.
- Power Cycle: High-pressure steam drives a Steam or Stirling Engine to provide 100% of the site's mechanical and electrical needs (pumps, tracking, sensors).
Rather than simple composting, the system uses an Anaerobic Digester to create a biological "starter fluid" for the desert.
- The Input: 10 tons of food waste mixed with a portion of distilled water to create a slurry.
- The Process: Digestion at 38°C (maintained by waste heat from the steam condenser).
- The Outputs:
- Biogas (Methane): Stored in bladders to provide 24/7 power during nights or cloudy days.
- Liquid Digestate: A nutrient-rich, pathogen-free slurry pumped directly onto desert plots. This "Bio-Active" fluid coats sand grains in organic humus, creating a soil sponge.
To turn the salt byproduct into a primary revenue stream, the raw precipitate is refined through a Cascading Solar Pond system.
- Phase 1 (Gypsum): Calcium Carbonate and Gypsum drop out first (sold as soil amendment).
- Phase 2 (Sodium Chloride): Slow evaporation in a dedicated pond produces Artisan Flake Salt ($15–$30/kg).
- Phase 3 (Bitterns): Magnesium and Potassium salts are collected as liquid fertilizers or sold for industrial chemical use.
The project follows a managed succession to reach a self-sustaining "Biotic Pump" state:
- Years 1–2 (Soil Building): Continuous "injection" of liquid digestate under tarps to build the microbial foundation.
- Years 3–5 (Pioneer Species): Planting of nitrogen-fixing shrubs (Acacia, Mesquite) to stabilize soil and create windbreaks.
- Years 6–10 (Canopy Stage): Establishing high-value trees (Date Palms, Neem, Pomegranate). The canopy shades the ground, reducing evaporation and allowing the oasis to trap its own moisture.
- Energy Status: Net Positive. Surplus electricity (~1,300 kWh/day) and thermal energy (21 GJ/day).
